What Omegle stores

Per conversation, Omegle stores:

• The mode, the start and end time, and every participant's IP address.
• Each chat message and when it was sent.
• A recording of your voice and video. It starts the moment you press start, so the wait for a stranger is recorded too.

Who sees it

• Omegle's moderators, who can watch chats and waiting users live and play back recordings later. You won't get a notification when they do.
• The police or other authorities, when we report something illegal or the law requires us to share it.
• Nobody else. We don't sell data and we don't use it for ads.

When it's deleted

After 30 days, recordings, messages and IP addresses are deleted automatically. The exception: material we reported to the authorities, or that's needed for an investigation, may be kept longer.

Why we record everything

A site where anyone can talk to anyone attracts people who shouldn't be there. Recordings let us check what happened, keep abusers out and hand evidence to the police. Keeping Omegle safe is our legitimate interest and the legal basis for this processing.

The stranger can see everything

Whoever you're matched with sees and hears whatever you share, and can record their screen. We have no way to stop that, so don't show or say anything you'd mind a stranger keeping.

Cookies and analytics

Chatting on Omegle doesn't use cookies. We do run an analytics service that counts visits and shows which pages get used, so we know what to improve.

Your rights

Depending on your country, you can ask to see the data we have on you or to have it deleted. Without accounts, the only way we can find your chats is by your IP address and roughly when you were on Omegle, so include both when you contact us.
